the long road of publishing – the story of wiseguys.

What kind of day has it been?

Things have been moving much faster than I anticipated; sometimes I feel like I do things very fast and all. But this is a good thing.

I got an e-mail recently from one of the sponsors from NaNoWriMo (the contest I took part of) telling me that one of my coupons was due to expire and I had a very short amount of time to use it. The coupon was to publish one free copy of my book. I wanted to take it, however I’m nowhere near close editing my actual novel.

So for those of you who were part of my last blog, you’ll remember that I had a film titled ‘Wiseguys’ in the works. Unfortunately that film did not go through, and I was left with a script. A good friend of mine told me before that I should consider publishing it, but I didn’t; thinking no one would ever buy a screenplay-like book.

So I’m thinking that maybe I could publish some of my poetry (as I’ve held back a lot of my poems from this blog), but it would take a long time to compile and edit all of them. I went to thinking about scripts, and somehow I ended up on Wiseguys. “Why not”, I thought, “It’s going to be for me and it’ll be cool”.

So I started polishing it for the past few days, making sure it sounded great and all. I’ve edited it about 5 times (and I still keep catching mistakes), but there was something in the idea that captivated me; it reminded me of how great a story it really was. I got hooked into it every time I read it, and now all I want to do is share it with you.

So that is my story of how I came with the idea of publishing Wiseguys, my first full length screenplay, into a book. Luckily the way I wrote it broke almost every rule of screenwriting, which makes it pretty easy to read. On top of that, I’ve included one of my favorite poems at the end of the book.

So that’s what happened. I went from looking at this script and touching it up to publishing it. Right now I’ve ordered my copy of the book, and if it checks out I’m going to upload it online and see where it gets me. I’ve just finished the eBook, and I’m going to be using the KDP Select (which if you’re really into Amazon, you’ll know much better than me). I’m pretty excited, and I cannot wait to update you with all the details.
