Recently, I performed two poems I wrote at a Poetry Slam hosted by the Thaqalayn Muslim Association and the Islamic Relief at York University. It was amazing event, with some awesome and passionate talent. It was incredibly inspiring to hear other people’s work, as well as their ideas. This is the first poem that I performed.
A family of trees huddle together in the forest; Some young, some old, both big and tall. Birds come from far, in the forest they nest; They know these trees, together, will never fall.
The last few weeks have been moving fast, very fast indeed.
For those of you that don’t know, and it’s many of you since I did this more or less on a whim, I’m currently publishing a book. Many of you might remember my screenplay ‘Wiseguys’, my crime drama that is modeled off all those classic mafia films. Many of you also might know about how the project fell through. So I was left with this script.
Things have been moving much faster than I anticipated; sometimes I feel like I do things very fast and all. But this is a good thing.
I got an e-mail recently from one of the sponsors from NaNoWriMo (the contest I took part of) telling me that one of my coupons was due to expire and I had a very short amount of time to use it. The coupon was to publish one free copy of my book. I wanted to take it, however I’m nowhere near close editing my actual novel.
So, as some of you know, I took the challenge of participating in NaNoWriMo, the National Novel Writing Month. As of last night, I have completed the first draft of my novel.
Yes, that was my reaction. That, followed by me basically knocking out until the sudden realization of me having to do my assignment for school came up.
Now, the point of this post is to chronicle some important things about my NaNo experience. One reason being to give you an update, and the other to highlight this great opportunity (in case any of you are considering doing it in the future).
Let’s start at the beginning; the very, very beginning.
Well, I haven’t written a ‘personal’ post in a long time. Here goes nothing.
For the month of November, I will be suspending my projects for the entire month. Why? It’s because I’ll be participating in NaNoWriMo, or the National Novel Writing Month.
For those of you who don’t know what NaNoWriMo is, it’s a yearly competition where writers from all around the world attempt to complete a novel of 50,000 words. You can find out more information at http://nanowrimo.org/
